NDA Study Material

We provide study material for the preparation of the NDA exam. The subjects covered under this exam are Mathematics, English, General Knowledge, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Freedom Movement etc, Geography and Current Events. One needs thorough study of the subjects to have clear understanding of concepts.


NDA exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment of candidates to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy. This entrance exam held twice a year one in April and the second in September. We hereby provide study material as well as exams for the preparation of the NDA exam.

Eligibility of NDA Exams


A Citizen of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, Or

A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Educational Qualification

For Army Wing:

Pass certificate in 10+2 exams via recognized board or a University.

For Air Force and Naval Wings:

For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: Candidate should have passed Class 12th exam in the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

  1. It must be noted that candidates studying in Class 11 are not eligible for appearing in NDA 2018 exam. Additionally, those candidates who have failed INSB / PABT earlier will not be considered eligible for recruitment in Air Force.
  2. Those candidates, who are currently studying in Class 12 at the time of application, must submit proof of passing the exam by deadline. Requests for extending the due date would not be entertained on any grounds.
  3. It must also be noted that the candidates who have been debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any type of Commission in the Defence Services will be considered ineligible for admission to the exam.

Syllabus of NDA Exams

National Defence Academy (NDA) exam consist of two paper i.e. Paper 1 which is purely based on Mathematics and Paper 2 of NDA consist of the General Ability Test which includes basic awareness and English proficiency. This section is further divided into two parts, English and General Knowledge.

  6. Analytical Geometry of Two and Three Dimensions
  7. Integral Calculus and Differential Equations
  8. Statistics and Probability
  1. The English portion of the entrance test is designed in a way to judge a candidate's knowledge of the basic grammar and vocabulary.
  2. It judges a candidate’s ability to form correct sentences and use of words.
  3. The syllabus of the English paper ranges from various aspects like the knowledge and usage of grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and his mental ability to remember and place the meaning of words in their proper places.
  4. Marks allotted to this section are 300.

The question paper on General Knowledge will cover current affairs, questions from Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography and Current Events. NDA syllabus of each topic is given below. The paper aims to check knowledge and intelligent understanding of the subject.

The exam pattern for NDA Exam is given in the table:

Instruction for Paper-1

  1. For each wrong answer, 1/3 marks will be deducted.

Instruction for Paper-2

  1. As per the marking scheme, 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  2. There are two parts in General Ability Test - Part A (English) and Part B (General Knowledge).
  3. Further, Part B is divided into 5 sections - Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Freedom Movement etc, Geography and Current Events.
